Let’s address the elephant in the room- erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common issue that affects more men over 40 than you might realise.
ED is not a sudden event, but a slow progression that can catch you off guard. It’s a reality that most men will face at some point.
And, the absolute worst part about ED is the impact it will have on the relationship with your partner. One day you’re firing on all four cylinders, and the next you’re struggling to get an erection. And if you’re lucky enough to get an erection, it will go limp after a pump, or it won’t be hard enough for penetration. An absolute disaster, and if ED is not treated quickly, it can kill your future sex life, and the long-term effects can be disastrous. Think about it for a minute. If you’re unable to have sex with your partner, they are going to be unsatisfied and perhaps look elsewhere for sex. Divorces, separations, and ruined lives are not uncommon as a result of ED. IUt might seem like a small non life threatening disease but let me assure you it’s right up there on the do wnat this to happen to me list.
The worst thing you can do about ED is sweep it under the carpet and pretend it doesn’t exist.
So, the best thing to do is to let the cat out of the bag and rip off the bandaid and bring up the topic of erectile dysfunction rather than pretending it doesn’t exist and making up constant excuses for not having sex or not being able to have sex.
Obviously, you and your partner are facing this issue head-on and are either in denial or are hoping it’s a temporary issue that will pass. You might have tried sex toys, gone online to watch porn together or might have given up totally. Either way, sex isn’t happening, and it must be addressed. As the man in the relationship, you have to confront this head on and bring it up with your partner so the two of you can look at ways of tackling the problem and finding solutions to resurrect your sex life.
Here are some easy ways to bring up sexual dysfunction with your partner and not keep it hidden in the closet till it becomes a serious issue.
1) Pick the right time and place
Try to go for a walk with your partner in a quiet, relaxed setting and bring your issue up with them. You might be pleasantly surprised at how relieved they will be that you have the courage and fortitude to address it. Always end the conversation by saying that you care for them and your main goal is to make them happy, which is why you’re bringing this up, and that you can both look for a solution together. And, never bring your ED issue up while you’re attempting to have sex. Leave that for now, as timing is critical. Plus, if it’s your partner, you know they’ll understand and be sympathetic, and if they’re not, then you have to ask yourself why you’re with them?
2. Share the issue
Erectile dysfunction affects your partner as well. It’s not all on you! And you cannot treat it as a personal failure as it’s 100% out of your control unless you have abused alcohol, food or a hefty smoker/vaper.
3. Offer Reassurance
If you’re experiencing ED, you have to put yourself in your partner’s position and see it from their point of view. Maybe they’re thinking that they aren’t attractive anymore, ot you’re not fancy enough. Perhaps you’re having an affair, and there’s nothing left in the tank for sex. All these negative thoughts can manifest into an avalanche that must be cleared up. Tell your partner it’s our issue and has nothing to do with them, and you will find a solution. Explain clearly that your erectile dysfunction is common with ageing males and that there are real solutions to help fix this, like Viagra, Cialis, Cenforce and Kamagra and that you have begun the process by contacting a GP.
4. Always be open to chat
Don’t be afraid to chat about this with your partner before you do something about fixing the issue. Bottling ED up only creates tension and sexual avoidance, which further exacerbates the situation and negative energy.
5. Create an action plan
Right! You’ve let the genie out of the bottle, and now it’s time to create a plan to fix this ED issue. Work through this together, taking the pressure off you by hiding it and pretending it’s a passing problem.
6. Focus on Foreplay
OK< so now you’ve got your pills or tablets and have popped one, there’s no reason to rush to the bedroom for sex. Take it slow, enjoy the moment and indulge in foreplay and wait for the medication to kick in. Remember, you’ve been waiting for this moment long, so saviour it.
